Model Significance

The 1990 Gary Fisher Sphinx was a pioneer of the hybrid/cross category, marketed by Gary Fisher as the ultimate "All-Road" machine. Hand-built in the USA using premium True Temper quad-butted SuperSize chromoly steel tubing, it offered a level of frame stiffness and durability rarely seen in non-MTB models of the era. Technical highlights included the oversized "Evolution" headset and fork system, paired with dirt drop handlebars for a versatile riding position. With its iconic "Sharkbite" paint schemes and vibrant neon graphics, the Sphinx remains a quintessential example of early 90s bicycle design and innovation.
