Model Significance
The Champion Mondial represents the pinnacle of Gazelle's handcrafted racing frames, produced in the brand's specialized racing department (Special Relief). The model's name and identity were inspired by the World Championship victories of Gazelle riders – the rainbow stripes on the decals are a tribute to champions like Harm Ottenbros (1969) and Hennie Kuiper (1975). Built from Reynolds 531 or 753 Double Butted steel tubing, it became one of the most prominent professional-grade, hand-built racing frames of the 1970s.
